And so it begins, fellow adventurers. I am posting from the gateway to this exciting journey, (that would be the gate at the airport, to those unfamiliar with the highly technical jargon of explorers). I am hyped up on coffee, and sleep deprived; my hands are twitching from the combination of the two, which makes typing this difficult. But, I have never been more excited. Now, every great adventure story must include some kind of unexpected conflict that thrusts the protagonist into action. So, here it goes:
Once upon a time, last May to be exact, this particular protagonist was just your average high schooler. She only had one year until she graduated, and she yearned do something amazing, but she was completely unaware just how soon that particular wish would come true. Then, three weeks before school was to let out the summer before her senior year, her school closed. Like that. Our protagonist was left to find another school for her last year before college. Now, she could have chosen to go to another school, make new friends, take different classes, and experience the newness of a public school. But, alas, she would have lost her class rank which her dear parents were counting on to bring forth college scholarships. Our hero needed a plan. A plan that would allow her to keep her hard fought title, and save her poor parents from passing out cold when they saw the college bill, (they still might, but every little bit counts). The plan involved much begging and pleading with the powers that be and eventually allowed your humble narrator to graduate high school using an alternative method. This method took the form of online dual credit courses whose credits would be accepted by our hero's now defunct school. Our protagonist labored through the many months of school work alone and quite without a social life. But good things come to those who become hermits in the name of higher education, and now I...er...the protagonist, has graduated five months early from high school and has nine whole blissfully long months before beginning college. Our hero prevailed over the forces of online lectures, and the slow atrophying of her social life, only to come out swinging, (or flying). The end.
Just kidding. It is not the end, you can't escape my dastardly clutches that easily, (insert evil laugh). These next nine months are going to be spent adventuring. First step: a two month trip to Taiwan. Daunting, for someone who has never left her own country before, but rewarding. I will be staying with family there and will be writing about the events that will transpire. Meanwhile, my pretties, I will be posting many pictures so that you may follow along if you wish in my quest for an international perspective. So, stay tuned, gear up your spirit of adventure, and I will see you on the other side, (of the pacific, that is).
Love your post. Following with anxious anticipation your every adventure. JC
